Environmental Test
For aerospace environmental test applications PCB® offers HALT, HASS, ESS Sensors for Vibration Testing in Environments -73 to +163 °C; ICP® (IEPE) Accelerometers with excellent thermal stability for testing Engine Systems, Components and System Dynamic Performance; High Shock Accelerometers for Monitoring Pyroshock Events and Impacts, Crash and Drop-Testing, and so on …
Low Outgassing Accelerometers & Cables
Exposure to the high vacuum level of a space environment induces material outgassing in ordinary accelerometers and cables. Any substance subjected to a vacuum has the potential to release trapped gasses. Contaminants from outgassing can condense onto nearby surfaces such as photo-optic devices and obscure them, rendering them useless during their intended application.
Aerospace Flight Test
Flight testing presents some of the test community’s greatest challenges. It is extremely expensive, test article availability is inevitably limited, timeframes are often compressed and unpredictable, and the sensors with associated instrumentation have to perform properly on the first attempt, even in rigorous environments. This testing can be a single event or it may encompass multiple tests over months or even years.
Aerospace Ground Test
Ground testing of a new aircraft design or an aircraft that has undergone significant structural modification, is a prerequisite before any flight-test program can begin. In turn, ground testing follows and complements an extensive structural modeling program, which encompasses flight loads, material fatigue, structural dynamics, airborne and structure borne acoustics and more.
Health & Usage Monitoring Systems (HUMS)
HUMS are gaining wide acceptance as an effective predictive maintenance strategy in helicopters. Due to the large number of critical flight safety systems on aircraft, particularly rotating systems on helicopters, vibration monitoring technology is effective in detecting and preventing catastrophic mechanical failures. Accelerometers used in HUMS typically have specialized requirements for performance, reliability, and packaging, depending on the particular aircraft and standards involved.
Wind Tunnel Sensors
PCB® offers dynamic pressure sensors, force sensors and microphones for Aerodynamic Engineers to use in wind tunnels to test aircraft or rocket models. Wind tunnel sensors include acoustic, high resolution and micro ICP® pressure sensors, prepolarized surface and pressure field microphones, and piezoelectric force sensors. Applications are i.e. Engine Nacelle Noise Testing and Dynamic Force Balance.
